Pets may sign in alongside their owner in the Pampered Pets registration book and receive a welcome treat from the pet-friendly cookie tray on the front desk.
The program is offered specifically in our pet-friendly cottages and includes:

San Ysidro Ranch is delighted to host you and your pet. To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for everyone, we kindly ask that you acknowledge the following guidelines:
- Pets must be on leash while on property
- Please clean up after your pet
- Pets are not permitted in the hotel’s restaurants, bars, salon & spa, fitness center, or pool areas
- Please make every effort to prevent your pet from barking or causing noise disturbances
- Do not leave pets unattended. Cottages are not fenced in, and pets can easily escape - even through hedges
- A non-refundable pet and cleaning fee of $250 will be applied to your account
By joining us with your pet, you agree to take responsibility for any property damage or personal injury caused by your pet. You further agree to indemnify and hold harmless San Ysidro Ranch, its owners, and its operators from all liability and damages resulting from your pet’s actions. The hotel reserves the right to charge your account for the cost of any damage(s) including compensation given to other guests related to your pet.
Named by Franciscan monks who first occupied the land in the late 1700s, San Ysidro Ranch pays homage to Saint Isidore, the patron saint of agriculture.
In 1825, the Mission Padres built the Old Adobe and began to farm the land, until it became part of the municipal property of the state of California in 1864.
In 1883, the Ranch was sold to Harleigh Johnston and Taylor Goodrich from Colonel Bradbury Dinsmore.
The San Ysidro Citrus Ranch, then the home of the Johnston Fruit Company, harvested an average of 300,000 oranges and 100,000 lemons annually.
In 1889, a large sandstone packing house was built to handle the citrus production, later to become the Stonehouse restaurant.
In 1892, a ranch house was built that would become the Hacienda, and architectural plans were drawn up for a small hotel that would open in 1893.
By 1912, the Ranch had become well known enough to host Winston Churchill and his family for the winter months.
During the Great Depression, the Johnston’s sold the hotel to Hollywood actor Ronald Colman and hotelier and former Senator Alvin Carl Weingand, who transformed the Ranch into a hospitality haven for celebrities.
Known for its idyllic setting and world-class service, famous guests over the years have included the Kennedys, Audrey Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Bing Crosby, Groucho Marx, Winston Churchill, John Galsworthy, Somerset Maugham, and Sinclair Lewis among others.
Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier were married at the Ranch, John and Jacqueline Kennedy honeymooned in the cottage now known as ‘Kennedy Cottage’, and John Huston completed the script for African Queen during a three-month stay.
